This song version by Siouxie and the banshees is special, I don't know why-- sorry, Iggy

Thursday, November 29, 2007

I would never post this kind of thing, but the song live caught on tape by a group of 20 year olds remind me too much of our days... enjoy even if the recording is so bad...

A song by DM in the early 80s, perhaps from one of the best (also least known) albums... The band at its best

Performing at the low quality Primavera Sound 2007-

Primavera Sound 2007

Day 2. Friday 1st June. Place: Forum, Barcelona. There are many bands, and in the end, as though due to the strong incoming sea wind, reduced sounds... Maybe Spanish news have already taken care of that report, so I am not going any much further... I am focusing on the organization thing...

I think I saw it coming when I looked at the arrangement and schedules... It might be chaotic, and then, it was both chaotic and low quality. So much for the human crowds, coming and going; in addition, we had to put up with simultaneous performances as well as lack of space for some big bands... while others had all the unneccessary space they possibly needed and wanted. Any way, Modest Mouse almost playing at the same time as Girls agaisnt Boys…. The first one in a small stage, and the other one in a bigger one that could have easily adjusted both... And then Planetas as the leader band in a place that made Jota's voice even more inaudible...

Then, we were punished more by the mike in Band of horses's superb performance, paused by such vibrating inconveniences. Our hair could stand with all those electricity-charged chastisements. Little by little, the festival descended to low degrees, which were not so in past years. By 4 am, the singer from Built to spill could not stand it any more and stopped their enthusiasm. I guess they also noticed how unfair the whole arrangement had been.

The Portuguese X-wife could at least do justice to our eagerness for innovative and talented sounds. We did enjoy their humble generosity there. Girls agaisnt Boys produced a positive experience too; I only wish I could have enjoyed them more without having to move fast. And Portastatic were also a nice surprise. About the leader bands, no comment, although The Fall did not fail to interest me, at least as an anthropological study.

I only hope that this festival is not becoming too commericalized, or maybe it is already too late (many shops popping up like mushroom...). That wasn't the (only) reason for the festival before.

The gigs that some bands get involved in are sometimes too intense for us...! Please let me be free of great performances accompanied by beautiful gestures and choirs towards mankind... These are usually seeking the green thing alone... The masquerade then comes in the form of charity gestures, etc. How boring (yawn!!) Any way, here is a different type of gig... where I don't think money had anything to do with it (the singer killed himself a few months later...)-

10 / 26 / 2006

A few months ago we could enjoy the superb performance by Appleseed Cast in COOC. What a band! These free concerts are like a gift in the spanish waste land. It's like bringing a little bit of fresh creativity and magic to a land peopled by barren thought and empty music. The misfortune of living in a place where copying is the most common task.
But Appleseed were able to suppress all that misfortune. People like Yiye García, Justo Cortés, or Fernando Sánchez are doing a lot for culture and openness in this little part of Spain.

LOGH (APRIL 2005):

This Sweedish band kicked arse in Don Benito last year. Sweet. The place, COOC pub, has been perfect for it. The sounds were smooth, fine, delicate...
The tones were coolly northern, but blended really well in the atmosphere of Don Benito.
We truly enjoyed the evening. The sweds form a group that gratefully saves all Don Benito nights once again...!! for the enjoyment of all.

The sounds of Don Benito night gigs!

From an attendant's point of view, some of the highlights in the Spanish town of Don Benito's night gigs. With bands like This Ain't Vegas, Starmarket, Logh, Engine Down, Lukestar, Ipanema, Enablers, Don't Look Back, ASC, Peluze, etc etc etc .
Here in this blog: The reviews and comments by someone just being guilty of enjoying freshly inspired concerts, gigs by international and national bands. Someone just happening to come by, go to his childhood town, and be part of events one might never imagine in this part of the world... The material to be posted ... Thank god for internet! And to you band-lovers from everywhere, welcome to this butthole place!!!
